Grating clips that hold
Steel grating has to sit tight on the frame and come off again for maintenance. Which clip does that depends on the grating type, the substructure and the corrosion load. This page compares the three fastening methods and shows what each one needs.
Methods
Three ways to fasten steel grating
A top clamp and a bottom clamp grip the grating against the support beam without any drilling — the clean standard solution for mesh gratings and pressed gratings. The part is also called a grating clamp, grating holder or grating fastener; in our range you will find it as a fastening set of top and bottom part.
Hook bolts, known in North America as J-bolts, are pushed through the grating and wrap around the support beam — flexible across many grating types and beam profiles. The common size for grating is M8. Details: J-bolts and hook bolts M8 at a glance.
These fasteners are bolted straight to the support beam or to the floor — the right profile for mesh gratings, pressed gratings and sheet-metal profile gratings.

Reliable protection at a thin coating thickness, for screws with internal drives and for nuts.
Always match the material of the grating and the fastener to avoid galvanic corrosion. Select the corrosion protection according to the application and the location, in line with the corrosivity categories of EN ISO 9223.

How do I fasten steel grating without drilling?

What is a grating clip?
Grating clip, grating clamp and grating holder are common names for the same clamping fastener. At ARNELL it is called a fastening set and consists of a top clamp, a bottom clamp, a hexagon head screw DIN 933 and a square nut DIN 557 — pre-assembled on request. For sheet-metal profile gratings there is also the M8 C-clip.
Which screw do I use for steel grating?
The usual choice is an M8 hook bolt, or J-bolt, pushed through and bolted down. For sheet-metal profile gratings, a C-clip.
How do I fasten steel grating on a terrace?

As a rule at least four, at the corners. The exact number depends on the size of the grating, the load and the project specification.
