J-bolts and hook bolts in M8

Hook bolt and J-bolt are two names for one part. It is pushed through the grating, hooked under the support beam and secured on top with a washer and a nut — the through-bolted fastening for mesh gratings and pressed gratings. M8 is the common size. Hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel, from our own production, ex stock Germany.

Which hook fits which grating?

Mesh grating

J-bolt M8

The classic J-shaped hook, led up through the mesh and bolted on top. For most mesh gratings this is the standard solution.

Pressed and heavy-duty grating

Hook bolt HFJ

A hook bolt with a larger bearing surface for higher loads and for pressed gratings — secure against lifting out and against shifting.

Complete point

With washer and nut

Supplied as a set with the matching washer and hexagon nut — one fastening point, everything in it, nothing to order after the fact.

The choice follows the grating, not the substructure: the mesh decides whether a plain J-bolt passes through, the load decides whether the wider bearing surface of the HFJ is needed. The comparison of the three fastening methods shows when a clamping grating clip is the better answer than a through-bolted hook.

Hot-dip galvanized steel

The classic choice for permanent outdoor use — good value for the protection it gives.

Stainless steel A2 / A4

For aggressive, damp or coastal environments and for visible bolted joints.

Thread M8

The common size for grating fastening — special lengths and dimensions on request.

Match the material of the grating and the fastener to avoid galvanic corrosion. Where the grating is stainless, the hook bolt should be stainless as well.

Made in-house

Hook bolts and J-bolts come from our own production. The forming tools that shape them are designed and built in our own tool shop — which is what makes a hook repeatable rather than a one-off. Quality management is certified to ISO 9001. Larger quantities and special dimensions are made to order.

Our own forming tools

The tool for a hook stays with us. A repeat order runs against the same tool instead of being developed again, so the geometry does not drift between batches.

Inspection follows a certified quality management system, so what was checked on the first batch is recorded rather than remembered.

A hook released to a drawing can be called off again years afterwards, against the same tool and the same inspection plan.

The washers and nuts that complete the fastening point are standard parts to DIN and ISO. Those come from inspected European sourcing and are checked to the same criteria as the fixings we make ourselves. One contact for both, since 1943. Shipped worldwide from Germany.
