Frequently asked questions

Which threads and dimensions are in stock?

ARNELL's available screw range is built around M8 – the thread used by the grating and fence fastenings. Further threads, lengths and custom dimensions are supplied on request.

Which head shapes are available?

Cup square bolt with square neck, hexagon screw DIN 933 / ISO 4017, countersunk screw DIN 7991 / ISO 10642, and cylinder screws DIN 84 / ISO 1207 with slot and DIN 912 / ISO 4762 with hexagon socket.

Why use a cup square bolt in a grating fastening?

The square neck under the head sits form-fitted and holds the bolt while the nut is tightened, so the installation can be done with one hand. In the pre-assembled fastener sets it is combined with a DIN 557 square nut.

Hot-dip galvanized or Geomet – what is the difference?

Hot-dip galvanizing to DIN EN ISO 10684 forms a metallurgically bonded zinc layer of typically 45 to 85 µm and is the robust standard for outdoor use. Geomet is a thin zinc flake coating, more dimensionally accurate and without the risk of hydrogen embrittlement on high-strength screws.

Do the DIN and ISO numbers describe the same screw?

Yes. The DIN numbers have largely been withdrawn and the ISO standards apply; dimensions and head shape are identical. DIN 933 = ISO 4017, DIN 7991 = ISO 10642, DIN 84 = ISO 1207, DIN 912 = ISO 4762.
